Hickory Asks Residents About Services

Hickory, NC Some
residents are getting the opportunity to tell city leaders what they
think about the city services their tax dollars go toward and what
improvements can be made.
The city will conduct a random
telephone survey of 381 residents later this month to increase
communication with residents, city officials said. City staff has
worked with Alan Jackson of The Jackson Group, a consulting firm that
specializes in survey and polling work for corporate and public
agencies, to develop the survey.
"Hopefully, we'll get ideas
through the survey on ways to improve and information on how city
services fit into their perception of the community," said Andrew
Surratt, assistant city manager.
Other questions will address such aspects as where people shop, parks they use and feelings on the economy.
The survey comes from an idea by city staff, but Mayor Rudy Wright calls the survey a good idea.
"We
feel like we're doing a great job," Wright said. "We hear people on
both sides of that. It doesn't hurt to have an anonymous response that
you can tabulate and even detect subtle differences in service
satisfaction. I think it's a good business decision."
Results of the survey, the first conducted by the city in five years, are expected to be complete by early June.
